Privacy Policy - The Academic

"The Academic" (the "App") is a mobile app for students and teachers of colleges that use it. It is provided by AppSilverTech ("we", "us") on behalf of the colleges. This policy explains what information the App uses and why.

1. How the App works

When you first open the App you enter your college's code. The App then connects to your college's own server, which holds your records. Your college decides what is published to you (for example notices, timetable, exam dates and results). We act as a service provider for your college.

2. Information the App uses

• Account details supplied by your college: name, email address, mobile number, course, year, division, roll number / application number, and profile photo (if your college has one on record).
• Academic activity: attendance records, timetable, study notes and notices, and (where your college offers it) exam form status, exam timetable, hall ticket and results.
• Camera: used only to scan the lecture QR code to mark attendance. Photos and video are not recorded or stored by the App.
• Notification token: a technical identifier used to send you push notifications (for example notices and updates). It is provided by Google Firebase Cloud Messaging.
• Login session: a secure sign-in token stored on your device so you stay signed in. An account can be active on one device at a time.

3. How the information is used

Only to provide the App's features: signing you in, marking and showing attendance, showing timetables, notices, notes and exam information, and sending notifications. We do not show advertising and we do not sell your information.

4. Sharing

Your information is stored on your college's server and is available to authorised staff of your college. We do not share it with other third parties, except Google Firebase Cloud Messaging, which is used only to deliver notifications to your device.

5. Security

Data between the App and the server is sent over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. Passwords are stored in hashed form. Please keep your login details private.

6. Retention and deletion

Your records are kept by your college for as long as the college needs them for academic and administrative purposes. To correct or delete your data, or to close your account, please contact your college administration. You can also write to us at the address below and we will pass your request to your college.

7. Children

The App is intended for college students and staff (18 years and above) and is not directed at children.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be available at this page, with its date shown above.
